Overview
Hello, and welcome to the My First Website Challenge! My name is Rosina Bignall, and I’ll be your guide as we embark on this exciting journey to create your very own personal website using WordPress.
Before we dive into the challenge, let me share a little bit about my own journey with creating websites. Back when the web was just starting, I began building websites by writing all of the HTML for each page by hand. It was a laborious process, and I even wrote my master’s thesis on using Mozilla. However, as the years went by and technology evolved, I discovered WordPress – an incredible Content Management System (CMS) that’s user-friendly, versatile, and supported by a vast community of developers and users – and my approach to building websites changed forever.
I have actually tried many different ways to build websites over the years. There are other Content Management Systems like Drupal and Joomla. There are various page builders like you’ll find in your autoresponders, other marketing tools and funnel builders like Clickfunnels (Classic). There are full site builders like Wix, Google Sites, and Clickfunnels 2.0. In fact, I thought about switching to Clickfunnels 2.0 completely. It never lasts long though, I always come back to WordPress.
WordPress revolutionized the way I built websites. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills and mastered the process of creating beautiful and functional websites using WordPress. Now, I’m excited to share my knowledge and experience with you!
Some may think it is difficult to set up and maintain a WordPress website. It’s really not that hard, I promise!
But, if you really don’t want to set it up yourself, I can understand that… you can always get my DFY solution. And if you want help with maintenance, I can help with that too – I’ll have several different options based on your needs.
In this challenge, I’ll help you build your own website where you can showcase your skills, expertise, or personal brand. Owning your own website provides you with more control and flexibility compared to relying solely on social media platforms or hosted website platforms like Wix, Blogger, or Clickfunnels. We’ll be using WordPress, the powerful, user-friendly tool that will enable you to build your website quickly and easily.
We’ll take a step-by-step approach, guiding you through the process of purchasing a domain name, setting up hosting, installing WordPress, and customizing your website with the Astra theme and Spectra page builder. By the end of this challenge, you’ll have a fully functional personal website that you can be proud of and use to showcase your skills, expertise, your own personal blog, or even modify it to be an online shop or anything you want. And you will have the skills you need to quickly build any type of website that you need.
Each lesson will have a video, text, and assignment. The video will teach you about what you need to do and show you exactly how to do it. I encourage you to watch the whole video – don’t just skip to the how-to part. Then when you get to the how-to part, pause it as much as you need and do each step.
